Better Schools:
Resource Materials for School Heads in Africa

Conclusion
In this guide we have attempted to build a case for self-development initiatives in line with the approach adopted in the series of modules produced under the Better Schools Programme and we hope that you now:
• appreciate the need for school managers to take the initiative for their own self-development
• can use the contents of the modules in a practical manner to improve your own performance as well as that of your institution
• can make more effective and efficient use of group methods, processes and techniques to manage your school better.

Neither this guide nor the modules are exhaustive in their coverage. You are, therefore, urged to read both in-country documents and external literature on school management more widely so that you can keep abreast of developments in your profession. You are also encouraged to supplement the self-directed learning approaches advocated in this module with other forms of learning, for example, distance learning, conference participation, seminars or activities organised by professional associations. You may wish to document some of your experiences and share them with colleagues. These and similar activities enrich your skills, knowledge and attitudes as a school manager.
